Scanner - Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does the TrendSpider Market Scanner do?
The Market Scanner from TrendSpider makes it easy to create a dynamic Smart Watchlist based on a set of custom-defined & multi-factored technical or fundamental criteria. This includes technical and fundamental data. Click here to learn more.

2. When I save my scan, where will it appear?
When you press the Save button, your scans will appear on the left panel of Market Scanner. You can search for them there.

3. Do you have any prebuilt scanners I can use?
Yes. You can select the "Built-in" tab to access prebuilt scans. If you want to adjust them, make sure to make your own copy by selecting "Make your own copy" when you open a particular scan.

4. Are there more scans outside the platform that I can import?
Yes. Select the "Store" tab and open the TrendSpider Store to import various other scans. Most are free to use.

5. What is the difference between Any, All, and None of the following?

  • Any: Any of the conditions can be true for the scan to show results.
  • All: All the conditions need to be true for the scan to show results.
  • None: If any of the conditions are true, they will be excluded from the results.

6. Can I scan every stock at once?
At this time, you cannot scan every stock at once. We recommend scanning larger lists, such as the S&P Composite 1500, Russell 2000, and NASDAQ NMS Composite. You can change this by pressing the "Search In" drop-down.

7. Can I combine lists to scan with?
Yes. Press "Search In" (to the left of the star icon), then press "Create a combination with another list". Please note that there is a limitation of 1,000 symbols that can be combined.

8. Can I scan for pre-market and post-market data?
Yes! Select the "Ext Hours" checkbox to run scans that include pre-market and post-market data.

9. Can I schedule scans to be sent to my inbox?
Yes. Select the three dots next to "Save", then select "Run this scanner on a schedule". Click here to learn more.

10. Can I clone a scanner?
Yes. Select the three dots next to "Save", then choose "Clone this scanner".

11. After I run a scan, can I change the columns or create a watchlist from the scan results?
Yes. Press the three dots above your scan results and you will see options to "Clone into a new Watch List', as well as selectable list of 'Columns To Display'.

12. Can I scan in other places than the Market Scanner?
Yes. You can run a scan in your Sidebar by clicking 'watch' on the right sidebar panel.  Additionally, you can run scans a Dashboard Workspace.  Click here to learn more.

13. Can the scan auto-refresh?
At this time, the scanner does not auto-refresh. You can manually refresh the list by pressing the circular "Refresh Scan Results" button in your watchlist or by changing the ticker symbol.

14. What does "Current Candle" mean?
The Current Candle setting scans in real-time, meaning that the current candlestick is considered in its present form, even if it hasn’t finished forming.

15. Can I scan for divergences?
Yes. You can scan for divergences in TrendSpider using the "Candles Ago" function in scripting. There are pre-built scanners available in the TrendSpider Store. Simply type "Divergences" in the Market Scanner to find available scans.

16. Can I share a scan?
Yes. Select the three-dot icon and then press the "Share" icon to the left of "Scan". Click here to learn more.

17. What type of fundamental data can I scan from?
You can scan from over 162 fundamental metrics such as Revenue, EPS, and Price-to-Earnings Ratio. Click here to learn more.

18. Can I scan for support/resistance?
Yes. You can scan for potential support/resistance areas using the "Chart Patterns" feature. Type in chart patterns such as "Triangle", "Double", or "Broadening" in the Market Scanner to find sample scans. Learn more about Chart Patterns & Fractal Trendlines.

19. Can I scan with custom indicators I created?
Yes, if the indicator was created in a way that it can be referenced in visual scripting.  Click here to see examples of custom indicators you can import from the TrendSpider store.

20. Can I scan by sector or industry?
Yes. Select "Search In", then go to the "Sector or Industry" tab to choose your desired list.

21. Can I scan for futures?
Yes. Select "Search In", then search for "futures" to see our built-in list's.  You can also create your own list and scan through that.

22. Can I scan for crypto?
Yes. Select "Search In", then select the "crypto" option to see our built-in lists.  You can also create your own list and scan through that.

23. Can I scan for forex?
Yes. Select 'Search In", then search for "forex" to see our built-in lists.  You can also create your own list and scan through that.

24. How can I use a script created in the Market Scanner in the Multifactor Alerts or Strategy Tester?
To transfer a script, click the three dots on the top right of your condition box, then select "Save" and then select "Send To".  After saving your condition's as a template, you can always access them by either clicking Visual Scripts on the top toolbar, or selecting 'Load From Template'  when adding a condition.

25. How can I use a script from the Strategy Tester or Multi-Factor Alerts in the Market Scanner?
Click the three dots on the top right of your condition group in the Market Scanner (press "skip to editor" button first if needed) and select "Load from Template" to import a previously saved script.

26. What candle types does the Market Scanner support?
The Market Scanner supports all available candle types on the platform, including such as Traditional Candlesticks, Raindrops, Heikin Ashi, and Line Charts.

27. Do my monthly Sidekick messages count towards my monthly total when crafting a scan?
Yes, anytime Sidekick responds to your query, it will count towards your total.  However, we give you unlimited free access to an AI Visual Scripting tool which enables you to create visual scripts using AI.   When building your scan, if you select 'Find symbols now', then it will use the free AI Visual Scripting tool.  Contrarily, if you select to 'Run in Sidekick', it will consume a message.
